Top 10 Islamic Apps for your Android Device

I’ve been asked several times to post an article about all the best Islamic apps out there for Android devices. So instead of just posting the ones I knew, I decided to be a bit more daring & just dive into the world of Android with my trusted partner – HTC to see exactly what’s out there.

It was quite an adventure. We both had an exciting time navigating through the rough terrains of the Google Play market. No doubt there were the downtimes whereby my partner dropped dead in its tracks & had to be immediately rushed off to the nearest charger and then the joyful moments when we both embarked upon a great app! :P Alhamdulilah!

Right now we are both recovering from this journey & clearing out from our memories the apps we didn’t like but in the future I hope to team up with a few good pals (or frrenemies? shh ;P) – iPhone & iPad to begin to exploring the jungles of iTunes inshaAllah. :)

Anyway, here is what we found below in our search.

(Note – There are many great apps out there both free and paid but unfortunately, I had to keep it to the top 10)

1. Quran Android (Free)

Quran Android is a free, open sourced Quran application for Android devices. This app is made up of crystal clear Madani mushaf pages along with many translations and recitations. Reading the Qur’an on this app feels like reading from an actual Quran.

2. iQuran Pro (Paid. Free Version also Available)

iQuran is a beautifully designed app by the team at Guided Ways Technologies. iQuran allows you to read the Holy Quran in Arabic alongside its translation. It provides verse by verse audio playback, colour coded Tajweed, repeat functions, unlimited bookmarks, search option, excellent navigational controls, several translations, reciters and much more. There is a free version available called iQuran Lite but the paid version (iQuran Pro) is well worth the price.

3. QamarDeen (Free)

Designed by Batoul Apps, QamarDeen lets you track all your daily spiritual efforts. You can use it to track your prayer, Quran reading, sadaqah, fasting and then see what needs improvement. This app has been quite popular in the iOS world and has recently become available for Android.

4. Hisnul Muslim (Free)

Have you heard of a little book, the Fortress of a Believer? It is the pocket-sized dua book that is a compilation of authentic duas recited by the Prophet (saw) on a daily basis and on special occasions. The Hisnul Muslim app is based on this book. It contains 267 duas (supplications) along with a transliteration, a translation and even audio recitation to help you get the correct pronunciation. Hisnul Muslim is a lightweight application taking up only 545kb.

If you are, however, after a more featured app then check out this great app: myDuaa: Fortress of a Muslim

5. Dua & Azkar (Free)

Dua & Azkar is another great app containing supplications to help you remember Allah throughout the day. This app does not contain as many duas as Hisnul Muslim however it is very visually appealing, easy to navigate and a great app to use every day.

6. Muslim Kids Series “Dua” (Free)

The Muslim Kids Series “Dua” app by Yufid Inc is another great dua application in the Android market. This app is specially made for children (or the little child in you! ;) ) as it contains duas along with audios and cute little illustrations.

The developers of this app have also created another app worth mentioning called Abata Hijaiyah which helps children learn the Arabic letters along with vocabulary.

7. AlSalah (Free)

The AlSalah app is an application that contains the prayer times and compass to help you perform your daily salahs where ever you are. No doubt, there are many prayer time applications out there in the market but what I like about this app is that it fast, light-weight ( = less battery power ) and beautifully designed! The app however does not contain alarms to notify you of prayer time nor does it provide a screen widget but if you are in need of these features then consider downloading the next app.

8. Prayer Time Pro (Free)

Prayer Time Pro is the only app I have come across that contains screen widgets in both horizontal & vertical versions that are also customizable! It includes adjustable alarms to notify you of a prayer time and a Qiblah Compass.

9. Tafseer ibn Kathir (Paid)

When reading the Quran, it makes such a difference to not only read the translations but also develop a greater understanding of the background of each ayah. This is when a good tafsir comes in handy and the Tafseer ibn Kathir app helps you achieve exactly that. This app is made up of the entire Tafseer ibn Kathir which is a classic commentary of the Qur’an by the scholar Ibn Kathir and it includes a handy bookmarking function to help you remember where you left off.

10. Asma’ Al-Husna, Allah’s Names (Free)

Asma’ Al-Husna contains the Names of Allah along with a translation in 8 languages and audio playback. Use this application to learn the Names of Allah.

So there you have it! The top 10 must have Apps for your trusted Android Mobile Phone/Tablet.

Is there any that you think should have got a mention? If so then comment below! Or might you are finding it was useful just share to your friends. Remember, Sharing is LOVING.
